A day off, the sun shining. What else could i do other then spending my whole afternoon in the central park of Groningen?

This is a view of the central pond in the park. There are more ponds throughout the park, which is what i think really what makes a park a park ;)

Yes it is! I like that there's so much life in it because a lot of people live right next to it or ride (on their bike) through it :) Thanks a lot for your faves!

Let me preface my comments with this: I like this photo a lot. In my estimation, compositionally, in terms of images I might want to hang on my wall, this is the strongest photo of this series. The vibrant colours are really nice and I enjoy greatly the mixed texture of the water.

However, it is somewhat soft technically, IMHO. Sharpness is suffering a bit perhaps due to a shallow depth of field at f/3.5? I would have gone for something a bit closer to f/8 for optimal blend of sharpness and DoF. Also, the blown out areas in the sky are a bit distracting. Not sure if this could be ameliorated in post.

Anyway, an enjoyable series, including this one. Cheers! :)

Wow that's almost like a real critique! ;) You are very right in what you say. I'm still learning a lot and after returning from the park and viewing the results full-size i realised a lot of photo's from this series (i ofcourse did not submit everything) had the same problem. Another wise lessong learned! Thanks for that. One question, what do you mean by blown uit areas in the sky, do you mean they're overexposed?

Thanks for enjoying! Cheers!

Yes some of the areas in the sky are completely white, so highlight detail is lost. I usually bracket a half stop either side or a half and a full stop either side on landscapes to find the ideal exposure without having to rely on the LCD. Cheers :)

Yeah i agree, i usually correct those things back home on the computer, but in this case that looked very bad. I'm still learning so much about photography and you, thogether with a few others keep giving great feedback and tips :) I think i'll be featuring those people soon ;)

Do you know of any good way to correct this problem in PS or any other program? I could use it to give the water in Rjukan Falls [link] more detail too.

It depends on how greatly the effect has occured, if you have absolutely no detail in the highlights (due to overexposure), then you are somewhat stuck with what you have, however you might try an exposure adjustment layer (Window > Adjustments > Exposure), which will allow you to specifically darken the areas around the clouds. The gamma and offset settings can be quite helpful in that regard. You can also try a curves adjustment layer, setting your black and white points and then adjusting midtones... There's always a thousand ways to do the same thing in Photoshop, it's just a matter of practice and finding which one works best for you in what instances.

Cheers. :)

Thanks for the advice. I've been learning a lot over the last weeks, but i'm just starting to explore the endless possibilities of PS.. These tips will be very useful because it could help me improve some other shots (like the waterfall shots, where the water is way to bright but i cant cut back on brightness and exposure much more).

I guess i'll be reading a lot of tutorials..

Cheers!

So the parks that don't have ponds are not parks for you :)?
